The Walters State Senators played the night game on Memorial Day vs. the McLennan Highlanders, which saw five home runs leave the yard between both teams. All that fire power some would say the fireworks started early for both teams. Three home runs came off the bats of the Senators, two came from the Highlanders.
Walters State, #2, wound up beating #18 McLennan 10-6. Brandon Grudzielanek and Tucker Johnson gave the momentum early to the Highlanders with home runs to right center just underneath the scoreboard, both solo shots landed within 50 ft. of each other. Runs came, not only by the home run, but also by small ball and errors on the defense for Walters St. The Senators regained the lead in the third following a Kyle Wilson single bringing in Lucas Ledford, 3-2 at this point. The errors started for McLennan, 2 on the game, popped up a couple innings later allowing a few runs to score for Walters St. The power bat, one of many on Walters State, Ross Grosvenor hit one of his two runs batted in hitting a solo home run to left field. An inning later saw Ramon Osuna, 3/5 with 5 RBIs in the game, step to the plate for the Senators smashing an absolute moon shot to the right field parking lot. The Osuna solo shot goes three rows deep in the cars.
Plenty of offense for the Senators to go around during this game, final score 10-6 gave Walters State their third victory in the tournament. Walters State advanced on into the winners bracket taking on the winner of North West Florida State, FL vs. Chattahoochee Valley, AL. The loss for McLennan sends them to the loser’s bracket where they face San Jacinto North, TX, rematch from their first game in the tournament.
