Colorado State football is getting new uniforms this season.

At least, that’s what it looks like from four photos and a seven-second clip CSU Football posted on Twitter today.

“These are tough. I like these. Ooh, these are so much better,” junior DB Jack Howell says on the clip.

Another preview was released as this piece was being written:

What can we say about these new uniforms from the pictures? Well, not too much.

It looks like there will no longer be the “bone” horns on the shoulders, as they will possibly have multiple stripes on the shoulders. The home green jerseys have a broad, gold stripe with a thinner white stripe below. Conversely, the white road jerseys have a broad green stripe with a thinner gold stripe below. The lettering on the white jerseys is in green, while the green jerseys feature gold lettering. Also, the “GRIT” on the front of the helmets are new, tied to second-year head coach Jay Norvell.

In Feb. 2022, Norvell said to supporters during the Signing Day celebration, “The greatest thing about GRIT is it’s mutable. You can learn it. You learn it by doing something hard. You can learn it by following through.”

Beyond that, we will have to wait and see what the new jerseys have in store. Will we see green on green, or green with gold pants? What about the new, reworked orange out, Ag Day jerseys? And how about the State Pride jerseys?

It seems CSU Football will be sharing the new look soon.

The Rams current jerseys haven’t changed much since they were first deployed in 2016 thanks to Under Armour. The last set of uniforms featured those “bone” horns on the shoulders, and a “RAMS” in small lettering above the knee on the left pant leg. Mixed in were tweaks of the Ag Day and State Pride jerseys, which are always fan favorites.

It will be interesting to see if the team keeps those white, alternate bone helmets or not, too.

The green helmets with the gold ram horns are loved by the fanbase, too, though. And Colorado State first donned horns on their helmets 50 years ago, in 1973, although they were with the colors inverted (yellow helmet, green horn).

In fact, the “Vegas” gold didn’t show up until 30 years ago, in 1993 during the Sonny Lubick Era.

And even more recently, the green has lightened just slightly.

So, this will be the next evolution of Colorado State Football jerseys and fans are obviously excited. There’s nothing like a new refresh to your favorite team’s uniforms in sports, where color schemes and logos are so important to supporters.

The Outlaws of CSU are pumped!

Colorado State kicks off their 2023 season on Sept. 2 against Washington State at Canvas Stadium. That game kicks at 5 p.m. MT and the athletics department is hopeful of a sellout.

Norvell is looking to turn around a Rams team which hasn’t made a bowl game since 2017, with five straight losing seasons. But Norvell has recruited well so far and excitement is building in Fort Collins for his team.
