The Colorado Buffaloes have continued to add to their embarrassment of riches at wide receiver and cornerback, most recently by securing the commitment of 2024 4-Star athlete Aaron Butler, from Calabasas, California.
Butler plays both ways for Calabasas as a star receiver and cornerback, making it hard to project what his ultimate role at the collegiate level will be. The addition of Butler continues to cement the value Coach Prime seems to place on players that have excelled on both sides of the ball, as several of his big targets and signings have had that versatility.
Per 247Sports’ composite score, Butler is ranked as the 95th-best player for the 2024 class, the seventh-best athlete, and the 12th-best player in the state of California.
However, this recruiting victory for Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes goes much deeper than Butler’s composite score.
Not only is Butler a top recruit in next year’s class, but he was originally committed to division-rival USC, before re-opening his recruitment a month after Prime accepted the CU job.
Over the past several months, Butler has been recruited by UCLA, Miami, Auburn, and Alabama, and even took a visit to see the reigning national champion Georgia Bulldogs. Then, a month ago, two of 247sports’ top recruiting experts, Greg Biggins and Steve Wiltfong projected Oregon as Butler’s landing spot.
Following Butler’s visit to Boulder, Wiltfong flipped his prediction to the Colorado Buffaloes, but Biggins remained steadfast, believing Butler would still ultimately land in Eugene.
With that in mind, Aaron Butler choosing the Buffaloes represents a big win for Coach Prime and the program over several blue-blood schools, including a handful inside CU’s own conference.
