This week is HUGE. There were opinions made and results collected, and no matter the outcome, there are going to be people angry, people frustrated, people who feel like they have not had their voices heard.
Of course, I’m talking about the Denver Broncos and all of the decisions they have to make coming off their loss to the hated villain that is the Oakland Raiders.
Here is my policy for what the Broncos must do in order to TRUMP the Saints and the AFC West.
Build a Wall
No matter the quarterback — the leader, the man in charge of governing this offensive unit — there must be strength up front. The Broncos offensive line, as a whole, needs to get back to basics.
Against the Oakland Raiders, the Broncos offense rushed for ONE first down, while the Raiders rushed for 11. They must find a way to have a successful ground game, which goes from state to state wreaking havoc on the opposition.
They must start from the ground up. But with this system, that is no easy task. It takes time to build a wall. You must work in concert and know what one another is doing; you must rely on the man next to you, and not be divided.
Unify, ground and pound, and protect your fearless leader.
Stay Healthy on the Campaign Trail
The X factor in the NFL, is health. Pretty simple: lose players to injury, lose talent.
You can’t stockpile superstars in the NFL (this isn’t the Crimson Tide); the rules just won’t allow it, so you must get healthy and stay healthy.
Aqib Talib, OUT. Derek Wolfe, OUT. C.J. Anderson, STILL OUT.
The list of the wounded is growing. You must find a way to stay healthy with the players you still have, and hope the players that are out, make a comeback.
Getting out of New Orleans with no injuries might be just as important as getting a win.
Get Behind Your Leader
I know that phrase stings for some of you out there, but you must get behind Trevor Siemian. He is the answer for now to lead Broncos Country, and while it’s like picking the candidate with the least amount of emails leaked, he is the guy.
Gary Kubiak and company, until they deem this season over, are riding the Trev Train as long as they can.
Trevor Siemian, in preparation, is showing something to the Broncos coaching staff that Paxton Lynch is not. So while the majority of Broncos fans want to see the new kid and see change, it isn’t happening, so you might as well cheer loud and proud and send positive vibes. He is the elected starting quarterback.
Make the D Great Again
Recently, the defense hasn’t looked as good as it did in 2015. It’s just a fact. I could show you stats and back this up with the incoming numbers, but I would imagine we are all tired of numbers by now, so you can just take my word for it.
The Broncos defense has shown some vulnerabilities, and while some of that has to do with that injury bug, some of it has to do with the unit that is available too.
The defense needs to be great again. Against Oakland, the Raiders’ time of possession was 41:28, versus the Broncos 18:32 (this also falls on the offense). The Raiders rushed against that once-vaunted rushing defense 43 times and averaged 5.1 yards per carry for 218 yards total on the ground. That is just bad, and it has to get better if you really want to contend. (Sorry. I promised no numbers, but like a politician, I lied)
So early predictions had the Broncos as likely AFC West champs once again. Let’s really hope the polls weren’t all wrong in Broncos Country, because if they are, this could be a bigger upset, a bigger suprise, a bigger shock than……………………The Cubs
