The NHL 2015 Entry Draft begins June 26 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

The Colorado Avalanche holds six picks, including the No. 10 overall, and the team has its eyes set on improving the defender position; they need someone who can make an instant impact.

Avs executive vice president and general manager Joe Sakic told the media last week during a conference call that they will choose the best player available, regardless of his position, come pick No. 10 on Friday. He went on to say  they will pick based on need during rounds 2-7 on Saturday.

Defensemen Eric Johnson and Tyson Barrie had career highs last season but the Avs have said they would like to pickup someone who will compliment them both. Vince Dunn of the Ontario Hockey League could be the most useful pick and might be available at No. 40 when the Avs select in the second round. He is currently the No. 32 prospect, according to NHL.com.

Curtis Joe of eliteprospects.com had this to say on Dunn. “An offensive defenceman that sees the ice well and makes high-percentage plays. Very mobile, poised with the puck, and actively joins the rush. Is great with his stick; possesses a good shot and makes seamless tape-to-tape passes.”

Whomever the Avs decide to go with, they can look to making a direct impact in Colorado with the Avs first pick.
