The expectations weren’t high for the NBA All-Star break, but most fans still appear disappointed by what the NBA put together this past weekend.

With various format changes, extended commercial breaks, unforeseen ceremonies, and Kevin Hart emceeing the All-Star game, there was a lack of seriousness to the entire event that permeating through every decision. The dunk contest was a dud for all but one player that has played five total games in three seasons of his NBA career in Mac McClung. The three-point contest didn’t even involve Stephen Curry despite the event being hosted at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors home arena in San Francisco.

Can the NBA figure out the All-Star weekend again? It doesn’t seem like they’re even trending in the right direction. Quite the opposite actually.

On the latest episode of Pickaxe and Roll, Ryan Blackburn returns after the All-Star Break to discuss what happened in the NBA over All-Star weekend and why it was so disappointing.

Then, he goes in-depth on just how good the Nuggets actually are compared to their last two seasons and if there’s anything to learn from those years.

Finally, Ryan discusses how many wins the Nuggets should be trying to achieve in the post All-Star portion of the regular season.
