Timberwolves 113, Nuggets 105: Andrew Wiggins scored a season-high 31 points and added nine rebounds as visiting Minnesota held off Denver.
Robbie Hummel recorded career highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds and Thaddeus Young scored 22 for the Timberwolves, who have won two of three after a 15-game slide. Mo Williams had 13 points and seven assists while Gorgui Dieng collected 12 points and eight boards for Minnesota.
Ty Lawson scored 22 points and Jameer Nelson added 16 off the bench for the Nuggets. J.J. Hickson had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Wilson Chandler scored 14 as well for Denver, which has dropped back-to-back games following a five-game winning streak.
The Timberwolves ended the third quarter with a 22-11 run to take an 85-83 lead into the fourth quarter and Zach LaVine’s 3-pointer spread it out to 92-87 before Arron Afflalo scored five straight points and Alonzo Gee split two free throws to put the Nuggets in front. Minnesota bounced right back to grab a 108-100 advantage on Dieng’s jumper with 2:06 left
The Timberwolves bridged the first and second quarters with an 11-0 run to take a 39-25 lead and were still up by eight just past the midway point of the second. The Nuggets took charge with a 15-2 run and went into the break with a 59-56 advantage before spreading it to 72-63 on Hickson’s three-point play with 6:24 left in the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Williams has halved his scoring output in the last three games, from a franchise-record 52 on Tuesday to 26 on Friday and 13 against the Nuggets. … Minnesota G Kevin Martin (wrist) missed his 29th straight game but could return as soon as Monday at Charlotte. … Nelson is averaging 15 points in two games since joining the Nuggets.
