Broncos defensive end Kenny Anunike made quite a mark in Friday’s preseason opener against Seattle, drawing the attention of not only the Seahawks, but play-by-play announcer Ron Zappolo and most of the Denver media. Anunike led the Denver defense with eight tackles, adding a sack and two quarterback hits to a performance that likely sealed his spot on the 53-man roster. Still, when asked by Eric Goodman of Mile High Sports AM 1340, Anunike said he isn’t taking anything for granted and that he’s looking forward to another opportunity to prove himself this week against the Houston Texans.
Goodman caught up with the second-year player, who said, following Tuesday’s practice, that he’s focused on executing what the coaches are teaching him and making the most of his opportunities “between the lines.”
On a lighter note, Goodman asked Anunike about the frequent butchering of his name. After a quick pronunciation lesson, Anunike joked saying that he wouldn’t be playing football if he was paid every time someone mispronounced his name In the end, though, he doesn’t really care how it’s pronounced, so long as someone is saying it on Sunday.
