As first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Avalanche have acquired forward Andre Burakovsky from the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals receive minor league forward Scott Kosmachuk and two draft picks in return, including the third-round draft pick Colorado received from Arizona in the Soderberg deal on Tuesday. The other pick sent to Washington is Colorado’s own second-round draft pick in 2020.
The 24-year-old pending RFA was recently qualified by the Capitals at $3.25 million in order to retain his rights. Burakovsky, who was linked to Colorado at the trade deadline in March, is expected to sign a contract with the Avs.
The five-year veteran is a former first-round draft pick of the Capitals in 2013. He is coming off a 12-goal, 25-point season in 76 games. In his Stanley Cup winning 2017-18 season, Burakovsky recorded the same offensive numbers in just 56 games before adding two goals and four assists in 13 playoff games.
Burakovsky has played both wings in the past and provides the Avs with a bigger body to fill out the middle-six. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound winger ranked 11th on the Capitals last season in time-on-ice, playing 11:08 per game.
