The Avalanche will be without captain Gabriel Landeskog for about 12 weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Landeskog, 29, missed the last chunk of last year’s regular season for a similar knee procedure before returning in the playoffs. He dressed in all 20 postseason games, scoring 11 goals and recording 22 points in a successful Stanley Cup playoff run. During that time, Landeskog did not take the ice for any morning skates or practices.

The surgery took place in Minnesota on Tuesday, where Colorado defeated the Wild 6-3 to improve to 2-1-0 on the season the previous night. Landeskog has not dressed in any of the three games and missed the entirety of training camp and preseason with knee complications.

“As the summer kind of developed and he started getting on the ice, he was having some trouble,” head coach Jared Bednar said of Landeskog following practice last weekend. “That was late developing.”

Bednar said on Wednesday that Landeskog had his knee looked at and had images taken. Ultimately, the decision was made to proceed with surgery.
