Hours before the start of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Colorado Avalanche were already hard at work. On Friday, the team announced that they signed restricted free agent forward Andreas Martinsen to a one-year contract.
Though the Avalanche did not disclose the value of the contract, the deal is reportedly worth $640,000. While this represents a slight paycut compared to the 26-year-old Martinsen’s entry-level deal ($742,500) signed last summer, it is a one-way deal, meaning he will get that entire amount.
After beginning his first season in North America with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, Martinsen cracked the Avalanche’s lineup in November. In 55 NHL games, he scored four goals and 11 points. The bruising forward also had 155 hits.
Following the completion of last season, Martinsen headed to the World Championship to represent Norway for the seventh straight time. In seven games during this edition of the tournament, he scored two goals and three points.
