The NHL has announced the release of its 2021-22 schedule, which will return to a traditional 82-game regular season.

The Avalanche will host the Chicago Blackhawks at Ball Arena for their season opener on Oct. 13.

With the Seattle Kraken expansion, the NHL will have four divisions of eight teams, meaning the Arizona Coyotes will join the Central Division. The Avs will play 26 games against Central Division foes. They face the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets and Arizona four teams, each. And the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues three times.

Colorado will also play 32 games against the Pacific Division, facing each team three times. And 32 games against the Eastern Conference, a total of two games against each of the 16 teams.

The schedule also has a break in February for both the All-Star Game and the 2022 Olympics. If the NHL is unable to come to terms with the International Olympic Committee on Olympic participation, then an altered schedule will be released at a later time.

The Avs will also have 11 back-to-back sets and conclude their regular season on April 29.

Start times will be announced at a later date.
