The Colorado Avalanche have signed forward Joey Hishon to a one-year contract for the upcoming 2015-16 NHL season. The organization announced the deal with the restricted free agent today. The 23-year-old center appeared in 13 games for the Avalanche this past season, tallying two points (1 goal /1 assist).
Hishon made his NHL debut on March 4, and scored his first NHL goal April 7, the game-winner against Nashville. The Stratford, Ontario native was Colorado’s first round pick, 17th overall, in 2010’s Entry Draft. Hishon spent most of the the past year with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, recording 36 points (16 goals /20 assists) in 53 games.
“Hishon the Magician” suffered a head injury during the 2011 Memorial Cup Playoffs that resulted in almost two full years away from hockey, but has worked hard to regain a shot of playing at the highest level.
