Home or road, it doesn’t seem to matter right now, as the Colorado Avalanche do one thing very well no matter where they are at – win hockey games. The Avalanche improved to 15-1-3 over their last 19 games with a 5-4 win over the plucky Minnesota Wild on Monday.

Let’s take a look at this West Division contest from a betting perspective in our Avalanche vs. Wild betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

Avalanche vs. Wild Betting Prediction

Colorado has the best record in the NHL (26-8-4, 56 points), has scored 50 more goals than their opponents (best in the NHL) and has the much-desired combination of top-end offensive talent and a goalie competing for the Vezina Trophy as the top netminder in the league.

They have made themselves the clear-favorite to win the Stanley Cup this year, as even good teams are struggling against them.

Take the Minnesota Wild, who have the third best record in the NHL since Feb. 18. In the 25 games since that date, the Wild, a strong defensive team, have allowed 60 goals (2.40 goals per game) – 16 of which have come in three games against Colorado (5.33 GPG), meaning that they have only allowed 44 in the remainder (2.00).

Colorado is 5-1-1 against Minnesota this season, having scored 28 goals total in the seven games (4.00 GPG).

Bets We Like With a Avalanche Win

Nathan MacKinnon to score 2+ points (+145, DraftKings) and Miko Rantanen to score 2+ points (+150, DraftKings)

Yes. These are the same props as Monday. And why not? They have the best chance of happening.

MacKinnon now has 12 points in seven games against Minnesota and Rantanen has nine points in those same seven games. Rantanen also leads the Avalanche with 20 points in 15 road games this season.

There’s actually a lot of ways to go with player props if you believe the Avalanche will keep on rolling.

In those seven games against Minnesota this season, Colorado has four players averaging at least one point per game. So you can even consider players like Cale Makar (2-5-7) or Gabriel Landeskog (3-6-9) who are -140 and -154, respectively, to go over 0.5 points at FanDuel.

Bets We Like With a Wild Win

Minnesota to score first AND win the match (including OT or shootout) (+270, DraftKings)

The Wild are 13-4-0 on home ice this season. And while two of those losses have come at the hands of the Avalanche, the Wild do play the kind of defensive game that allows them to dictate the pace of play if they score the opening goal.

In their 13 home ice wins, the Wild have scored first 10 times. They are 10-2-0 at home when scoring the first goal and and 17-3-1 overall when scoring the first goal. That means they are 6-9-1 when giving up the first goal.

So, getting the first goal is paramount to winning for the Wild, and since they win 81% of the time when scoring first, if you think they can pull the upset, this is a good parlay to try to cash in on as scoring first.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

OVER 5.5 goals (-118, DraftKings)

Quite simply, six out of seven games between these teams have gone over 5.5 goals this season. And, considering the Avalanche have averaged 4.85 goals per game over the last 13 contests all by themselves, it’s not to difficult to see this be the seventh game between these squads to go over that goal total.

Avalanche vs. Wild Prediction

There was a thought the Wild could tame the Avalanche last time out based on the way they had been playing defensively at late. But this Colorado squad would make any of the greatest historical NHL defenses and goaltenders blush.

They just keep coming in waves and waves, and feel like they have something to prove. Also, when a team is going as well as Colorado is right now, you just have to ride them until they lose, and not try to guess when that might be.

Also, since they’re a heavy favorite, if you parlay the Avalanche and the over 5.5 goals on DraftKings you can get it at +163, which is great value for two likely outcomes. Call it Avalanche 5, Wild 3.
