Two days out from the start of the 2017-18 season, the Colorado Avalanche are staying active in an effort to bolster their blue line.
The club announced Tuesday that the team has claimed defenseman Patrik Nemeth on waivers from the Dallas Stars.
Nemeth, 25, has spent his entire career with the Stars organization after they selected him in the second round (41st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on April 1, 2014.
The Stockholm, Sweden, native has appeared in 108 career NHL games, tallying 14 points (0 goal /14 assists) and 40 penalty minutes. Nemeth dressed in five postseason contests for the Stars during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording no points and 12 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 219-pound rearguard skated in 40 contests for Dallas during the 2016-17 campaign (0g/3a). His 40 games and 631 minutes last season were both career highs.
Dallas re-signed Nemeth to a one-year contract worth $945,000 this past offseason.
Colorado has nine defenseman on the roster at present with the addition of Nemeth and after reassigning Duncan Siemens and David Warsofsky to the AHL.
The Avs open the 2016-17 season on Thursday in New York against the Rangers.
