Although the Colorado Avalanche did not make a blockbuster deal at the NHL’s trade deadline on Monday, the club did make three moves. Most significantly, they sent veteran winger Maxime Talbot and forward Paul Carey to the Boston Bruins in exchange for 24-year-old right-winger Jordan Caron and a 2016 sixth round draft pick.
The Avalanche lose a veteran locker room presence and a penalty killer in Talbot. The 31-year-old scored 12 goals and 28 assists in 133 games over the course of the last two seasons in an Avalanche sweater.
Carey, 26, has one point in 10 games with the Avalanche this season.
Caron – who was drafted in the first round of the 2009 draft – is pointless in 11 games in his fifth season with the Bruins. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound forward recorded 19 points in 23 games with the AHL Providence Bruins this season. The 24-year-old has 12 goals and 28 points in 134 career NHL games and will be a restricted free agent this summer.
Colorado assistant Andre Tourigny traded for and coached Jordan Caron at QMHL Rouyn-Noranda, so that’s the connection there.

In addition, Colorado made two minor league trades.
The Avs acquired forward Freddie Hamilton from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Karl Stollery. Hamilton has 30 points in 52 AHL games this season after appearing in 11 games with the Sharks last season. The 23-year-old is the older brother of the Boston Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Stollery registered a plus-4 rating in seven games with the Avalanche over the course of the last two seasons. Both players are pending restricted free agents.
The Avalanche also traded forward Michael Sgarbossa to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Mat Clark. Sgarbossa has spent the entire season playing with the Lake Erie Monsters while Clark registered one assist in seven games with the Ducks and spent the rest of his season in the AHL. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound defenseman was born in Wheat Ridge, CO. At 24 years old, he has played in nine NHL games and is also a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
