Colorado Avalanche prospect Chris Bigras was among six players selected as first team Ontario Hockey League All-Stars on Wednesday. The offensive defenseman torched the OHL to the tune of 20 goals and 51 assists for 71 points in 62 games with the Owen Sound Attack last season. He added three points in five postseason games.

The Avalanche selected Bigras in the second round, with the 32nd overall pick, in the 2013 NHL draft.

Following the conclusion of his major junior season, Bigras joined the Lake Erie Monsters for the end of their season. The 20-year-old impressed with four assists and a plus-2 rating in six games with the Avs’ American Hockey League affiliate.

Bigras brings more to the table than just offense though — he posted a plus-34 rating for Owen Sound in 2012-13 and was voted the top defensive defenseman in the OHL’s Western Conference for 2013-14.

The native of Ontario, Canada is geared to take the next step and compete for an NHL roster spot at Avalanche training camp next season.

After finishing last season 26th in the NHL with 33.2 shots against, the Avs need all the help they can get on the backend.

Center Connor McDavid (Erie Otters), left wing Max Domi (London Knights), right wing Mitchell Marner (London Knights), defenseman Anthony DeAngelo (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), and goaltender Lucas Peressini (Kingston Frontenacs) joined Bigras as first team OHL All-Stars.
