The NBA announced today that their Basketball Without Borders program will continue to expand throughout Europe with a new camp being set up in Belgrade, Serbia and Denver Nuggets own Nikola Jokic will attend and take part in the event.
The Basketball Without Borders camp in Belgrade will take place from August 15-18 and will feature San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich as well as Nemanja Bjelica, who just recently signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. It will be for the top female and male players age 17 and under.
In addition to Jokic heading to Belgrade, Gary Harris will also be on his way to Serbia to help team campers throughout activities on and off the court. Other NBA participants include Serbians Bogdon Bogdanovic, Peja Stojakovic, and Valde Divac of the Sacramento Kings; Frank Kaminsky of the Charlotte Hornets, who’s mother is Serbian; Popeye Jones, assistant coach of the Indiana Pacers; Jacque Vaughn, assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets, with more current and former players expected to join.
Basketball Without Borders has reached more than 3,200 participants across 127 countries beginning back in 2011 and now there are 24 former Basketball Without Borders participants who were on opening night rosters to start the 2017-18 NBA season. This will be the 55th Basketball Without Borders camp and it is about time that the program finally made its way into Serbia.
