Following the Denver Broncos’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Bo Nix had a bit of a frustrated look on his face during his postgame presser. After a promising start in the preseason, the rookie quarterback has struggled in the first two games of the regular season.

Against the Steelers, Nix was 20-for-35 with 246 passing yards. He threw no touchdowns but had two interceptions. He also had a woeful quarterback rating of 32.5.

Postgame, Nix was asked about what happened on one of his interceptions in the endzone. Nix was in no mood for semantics and answered rather bluntly.

“[I] dropped back, threw it to the other team.”

Despite his rather blunt response, Nix would go on to share why his confidence hasn’t been rattled by the Broncos’ 0-2 start on the season.

“I have good confidence. I feel like I’ll continue to get better and look in the mirror and see what I can do and evaluate myself,” said Nix. “It’s important to look at it from a bigger perspective. Football’s just a game that we come out here and have fun playing. We make it a very, very big deal because sometimes it is. There’s a lot of people out there anticipating the game, and the atmosphere and wins and losses. I think it’s important to keep [a] good perspective and not make football your whole entire life because if you play it long enough, it will fail you over, and over and over. It will knock you down. It will beat you up.”

Nix would continue with a bit of a philosophical approach, connecting football and life.

“The value of playing the sport is it’s just like life,” said Nix. “Sometimes you just have to keep taking hits and keep taking hits and then eventually you’ll figure it out and get back on your feet and move forward. So my confidence is bigger than football. It’s bigger than wins and losses. Now don’t make a mistake about it—I’m going out there and competing my tail off trying to win every single game for this team behind me because they deserve it. I feel like the confidence level is going to continue to build the more and more you play.”

Despite a poor performance in Week 1, Nix still doesn’t feel as if he regressed in Week 2. Even though the Broncos lost, the young quarterback still feels like there were some positives he can build off of.

“I think when you go back and watch the film, I think I took a good step,” said Nix. “Sometimes good steps don’t turn into wins though. So it’s a long process. It’s a tough league for a reason. We just have to continue as a crew, as a group, find ways to get better, and build and take steps. I have to do the same.”

Next Sunday, the Broncos will face their toughest opponent so far in the surging Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
