Broncos Country was a little nervous when news broke on Sunday that Aqib Talib was going to have to sit this one out with a lower back injury, but they should have known they were in good hands.

We’ve got Bradley Roby.

Roby, the Broncos’ third cornerback, seamlessly slipped into a starting role, locking down whichever Chargers receiver lined up across from him, and playing the secondary role of the Broncos’ most-effective offensive threat.

And that performance earned him his first career AFC Defensive Player of the Week award.

It’s important that we note Lorenzo Doss, too, who stepped into Roby’s role. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the best Broncos defender on the field Sunday, earning a grade of 86.4.

No matter who’s out there, there’s a reason they call it the “No Fly Zone.”

Roby had quite the week. After hosting a charity golf event last Tuesday that earned him NFLPA Week 7 Community MVP honors, he went out and played one of the best games of his career on Sunday.
