Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph has informed the team that Brock Osweiler will start at quarterback in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, multiple sources reported.
Siemian, who threw three interceptions on Monday night in the Broncos’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, struggled for the fifth-straight game to establish any sort of forward push down the field. The Broncos are losers of three in a row and four in their last five.
Osweiler, who made seven starts for the Broncos in 2015, has thrown 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in his short sample size as Broncos starting quarterback. Osweiler was 5-2 as a starter in 2015, helping Denver to a No. 1 seed seed in the AFC. He was replaced by Peyton Manning midway through the Week 17 finale against the Chargers; Manning went on to start all three playoff games, including Super Bowl 50.
Originally drafted by Denver in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Osweiler completed 189 passes on 309 attempts (61.2 percent) for 2,144 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in his first stint with Denver. He signed with the Texans as a free agent in 2016 and went 8-6 in 14 starts with Houston. He completed 301 passes on 510 attempts (59.0 percent) for 2,857, 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in his lone season with the Texans.
Denver re-acquired Osweiler as a free agent on Sept. 2, 2017 after his release from the Cleveland Browns. He was traded to Cleveland on March 9, 2017, along with the Texans’ 2017 sixth-round pick and 2018 second-round pick in exchange for the Browns’ 2017 fourth-round compensatory pick. He signed a four-year $72 million contract with Houston on March 9, 2016.
