The Baltimore Ravens took a chance on Lamar Jackson in the first round of the NFL Draft last spring. And through the first two games, Baltimore has appeared eager to get the rookie quarterback on the field.
Despite being the number two, Jackson has averaged 18 snaps per game and has completed one-of-four pass attempts. Jackson also has two carries for six yards and one fumble.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has said that Jackson’s usage will be determined on a week-to-week basis, so there is no guarantee that the former Louisville star will see the field Sunday. According to Vance Joseph, the Broncos will be prepared if the elusive QB is in Baltimore’s offensive game-plan.
“He’s a good athlete, so you can’t treat him as a Wildcat player because he can throw the football,” Joseph said. “Obviously we’re going to have a plan for him. I won’t share that, but we have a plan for him.”
Jackson has had limited success in a small sample size, but he always has the potential to break a big play. At the University of Louisville, Jackson threw for 9,043 yards, 69 touchdowns and had only 12 interceptions. On the ground, Jackson had 4,132 yards and another 50 touchdowns.
Look for the Broncos to try and stack the box against Jackson and make the rookie quarterback throw the ball against tight man coverage with pressure in his face or beat an athletic group of pass rushers with his legs.
