As the Broncos received news that two of its building blocks in outside linebacker Bradley Chubb and safety Justin Simmons were named to the Pro Bowl, one other player — perhaps Denver’s most-improved player in 2020 — was disappointed for being left off the Pro Bowl roster.

Offensive tackle Garett Bolles, in the midst of his best season in the NFL, was snubbed.

“I was disappointed,” Bolles said. “But at the same time, I’m proud of Simmons and Chubb for their rewards and their outstanding play this year.”

Bolles was flagged for 32 penalties in his first three seasons in the NFL. The 28-year-old has often been criticized for his lackadaisical plays by many, including Broncos general manager John Elway. But in 2020, Bolles has been penalized just four times — six times less than the 10 he was called for in 2019 and 2018.

“I didn’t start this season to win an award,” Bolles said. “I started this season to be the best player I can be on and off the field. It’s not up to me if I win an award or not. What’s up to me is to continue to go out there and be the best at my position and improve every single play.”

His improvements have been noticed by his fellow teammates. The Broncos’ starting quarterback Drew Lock has complimented Boles a number of times throughout the season. And on Wednesday, Lock once again shared his thoughts about Bolles’ improved play in 2020.

“I’ve been standing behind and been protected by Garett extremely well this year,” he said. “I’m extremely proud of the way he’s played. I think he’s one of the best in the league right now.”
