The Denver Broncos have been linked to former University of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon ever since they brought him to Dove Valley for a visit last month. On Monday, general manager John Elway was asked if the prospect’s off-the-field behavior factors into their decision-making.
“Yes,” Elway said. “Obviously, that’s an issue and it’s something we’re continuing to look at, and get at much background as we can on Joe to see where he may fall for us.”
Elway refused to say if Mixon was on the Broncos’ draft board or not. He did however, touch a little on the team’s meeting with the RB.
“We had a good meeting with him, there’s no question,” he said. “[We] didn’t get a chance to spend a lot of time with him, but we had a good meeting with him. We went through the whole process and what happened. I’m sure he’d been through it several times, but for us to be able to hear it from him and what happened, [we] went through all that.”
Mixon was suspended for the entire 2014 season after hitting a woman in the head the summer prior, in an incident that was caught on video. He settled a lawsuit with the woman last week.
In 2016, Mixon rushed for 1,274 yards and 10 touchdowns; adding 538 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.
