In his third year with the Denver Broncos cornerback Kayvon Webster helped the Denver Broncos win the franchise’s third Super Bowl title. His goal for his fourth year? A fourth Lombardi Trophy for Denver.
Webster joined Sports Guy Mike on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to discuss the feeling of winning a Super Bowl ring, the ring itself, and his goals for personal improvement towards this upcoming season.
“It’s like a feeling you can’t really explain,” Webster said. “It’s just like reaching a goal. It’s just like really reaching the ultimate goal that you’ve been dreaming about since you were young.”
Webster is in his third year out of South Florida, where he never appeared in a bowl game, so for him to reach the pinnacle of the NFL is something he calls “an amazing goal to accomplish.”
The Broncos received their rings in June, and while the ring itself was certainly something for Webster to cherish, it didn’t mark the end of the Broncos’ third Super Bowl-winning season.
“I don’t think me putting it in a box ended it,” Webster said. “I think after we won, we after-partied like two weeks after that. Three weeks after that, I was back training. So I kind of had put it behind me then because I knew I couldn’t dwell on it too long.”
Webster “probably wore it a week straight” after receiving it, but then put it up and began focusing on his keys to personal improvement heading into 2016.
Those keys include staying in shape, working on individual drills, and honing his craft as a “technically-sound” cornerback. Webster stressed the importance of getting back to work and bringing home a fourth trophy, especially now that the Broncos are the focus of every NFL team.
“It’s a new season and a target is on our back, so we’ve got to come back ready to defend the title.”
