On Sunday, the Denver Broncos will honor the franchise’s storied history by donning some new threads.

The jerseys are a throwback to 1977, when the Broncos wore bright orange and blue uniforms with the classic D logo on the helmet. The throwback jerseys also honor the famed Orange Crush defense, which terrorized the league for many years.

When the throwback jerseys initially dropped, fans were ecstatic. Reactions to the jerseys were overwhelmingly positive, and it went as far as fans demanding the throwback jerseys become the Broncos’ permanent jerseys.

Not only are fans excited about the uniforms, but Broncos players are too.

“Y’all seen them bad boys. Them joints sweet. I’m looking forward to Sunday and putting the threads on,” Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton said. “The helmets already look, they’re some good eye candy for sure. Looking forward to wearing them, even more exciting and making the moment more by going out there and getting a divisional win. That is gonna make it an even more special moment. Bringing the throwbacks back but getting a divisional win in them at home, that moment would be very satisfying.”

On top of the excitement to wear the jerseys, the team chose to break them out for the perfect matchup. The Broncos will wear their throwback jerseys against their biggest rival, the Las Vegas Raiders.

For the first time in decades, the Broncos completely overhauled their uniforms. Reactions to the new main jerseys were mixed, but the one saving grace was the throwbacks. The downside is that the Broncos will only wear them twice this season.

“They tight, they dope, they’re my favorite uniform combos for sure,” cornerback Pat Surtain II said. “It sucks we can only wear them twice a year, I wish we could wear them more times. I’ll come out swaggy this week, put something together for sure.”

In continuation of honoring the Orange Crush defense, the Broncos will induct Steve Foley and Riley Odoms into the Ring of Fame at halftime on Sunday. They will also honor Randy Gradishar for his recent induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I think they’re awesome,” Surtain said of the jerseys. “I think anytime you can pay tribute to former teams that have come before you, I think it’s really important and it’s fun to wear throwbacks. It’s a neat thing teams can do and ours are pretty cool.”
