University of Colorado quarterback Steven Montez was named Monday to the preseason watch list for the 82nd annual Maxwell Award.

Montez threw for 2,975 yards, 18 TD and nine INT, while rushing for 338 yards and three scores last season and was a 2017 honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection. Montez passed for at least 300 yards in a school-record three consecutive games, against Arizona St, Cal, and USC. He also set a CU record with 172 consecutive passes without being intercepted. Montez (junior) currently ranks ninth in school history with 3,992 passing yards.
Montez is one of a dozen Pac-12 players named to the preseason watch list. including Jake Browning (Washington), Stephen Carr (USC), K.J. Costello (Stanford), Myles Gaskin (Washington), N’Keal Harry (Arizona State), Justin Herbert (Oregon), Patrick Laird (California), Bryce Love (Stanford), Zack Moss (Utah), Khalil Tate (Arizona), Manny Wilkins (Arizona State).
The watch list candidates are chosen by the Maxwell Football Club’s selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Oct. 29, while the three finalists for each award will be unveiled Nov. 19. The winner of the 2018 Maxwell Award, which was won by Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield last season, will be announced on Dec. 6.
