It’s no secret that Chauncey Billups wants to work in the front office of an NBA team; his desire to be a general manager or president of basketball operations has been cemented in recent weeks, as he’s interviewed for various openings. And it looked like he was going to get the opportunity when the Cavaliers offered Billups the chance to be their president of basketball operations, putting him in charge of tweaking a roster that reached the NBA Finals this past season.
But according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the former CU and Nuggets star has withdrawn his name from consideration for that job.

This comes as surprising news, given that Cleveland offered Billups the role he wants. But the fact that the former NBA Finals MVP didn’t jump at the offer immediately hinted that things might go south.
Now, only one question remains: Why did Billups bail?
There are two possible answers. One, he didn’t like the way Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has treated past members of the front office. Or two, he knows that LeBron James is leaving after the 2017-18 season, which will make the job in Cleveland a lot hard, longer project.
