CHSAA Championship Saturday, presented by Mile High Sports, in conjunction with ESPN Denver 1600.
The 5A Boys Championship pitted the 23-4 Eaglecrest Raptors against the 25-2 George Washington Patriots. The Patriots made the Raptors work for every second of the final, but Eaglecrest walked away the winners 53-47 led by 15 points from senior Colbey Ross.
Renaud Notaro and Doug Ottewill were on the call from the Denver Coliseum.
Quarter 1
It was a defensive battle but very high energy through the first eight minutes. Jervay Green had a pair of key breakaway lay-ins to help give George Washington a 12-9 lead. The Patriots forced seven turnovers and pulled down 10 rebounds in the quarter.

Quarter 2
George Washington continued its swarming defense in the second quarter, again holding Eaglecrest to single digits. The Patriots pulled down 10 rebounds in the quarter, including seven by Tre Pierce. At the half, Pierce and Mo Diallo were leading the scoring with six points apiece as the Patriots led 22-16.

Quarter 3
Eaglecrest came storming out of the halftime break to take the lead, 28-27, on a Ikenna Ozor fastbreak just past the midway point of the quarter. George Washington struggled to break the half-court zone defense of the Raptors, and Colbey Ross hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Eaglecrest a one-point lead heading into the fourth.

Quarter 4
Midway through the final quarter it appeared that Eaglecrest was headed to a comfortable victory, but George Washington would not go away without a fight. The Patriots made the Raptors work for every second of the final, but Eaglecrest walked away the winners 53-47 led by 15 points from senior Colbey Ross.
