The Colorado Rockies have a chance to gain ground in the NL Wild Card race when they visit the Dodgers tomorrow, and may catch a break as Clayton Kershaw is now headed to the disabled list for his lower back.

Colorado currently sits five games behind the Dodgers in the National League Wild Card standings and four games out of the final Wild Card spot. The Rockies are .500 through six games with Los Angeles this season, but are hitting just .253 against the Dodgers this year and .242 at Dodger Stadium.

Although Los Angeles’ ace has struggled against the Rockies in the past, he owns an NL-low 1.79 ERA through 16 games this season while limiting National League opponents to a .194 batting average.

The Rockies were 7.5 games back in the Wild Card at this point in the 2015 season and lost six of their next seven, but are in a better position this year. Their win against the Dodgers on June 8 was their first series win since May 15, against the New York Mets, and they went on to win five of their next six games, including a two-game sweep of the Yankees.
