Coach Prime overhauled the CU Buffs roster soon after arriving, and that talent overhaul will continue to perpetuate into the future, thanks in part to Coach Prime securing two more 4-star talents in the 2024 class this weekend.
First, the Colorado Buffaloes landed the commitment of edge rusher Brandon Davis-Swain, who has been a top target for the Buffs since Prime took the job. One day after Davis-Swain took his official visit to Boulder, he announced that he would be committing to the University of Colorado.

Davis-Swain currently ranks as the CU Buffs’ best defensive lineman and second-best overall commit in their 2024 class. Davis-Swain boasts a 0.942 composite score from 247Sports, which ranks him as the class’s 201st-best player overall, and the 24th-best defensive lineman in 2024.
Although they got the commitment from Davis-Swain, Buffs fans would be wise to avoid counting their eggs before they hatch. Just over a year ago, Davis-Swain committed to Notre Dame, before eventually de-committing in December. CU also recently experienced the pain of losing the commitment of Ju’Juan Johnson.
Just one day after the Davis-Swain news dropped, Coach Prime pulled off an even bigger surprise by convincing Zycarl Lewis Jr. to commit to the CU Buffs, despite the school being outside his top-eight programs.

Coach Prime has placed an emphasis on building from the outside in, on both offense and defense and bolstering his future wide receiver group by bringing in Lewis will only continue that trend for the CU Buffs.
Per 247Sports, Lewis has a 0.900 composite score, ranking him as the class’s No. 342 player overall, the No. 51 WR, and the No. 54 player in the state of Florida.
Lastly, on Monday, Coach Prime and the CU Buffs secured the commitment of 3-star running back Micah Welch. Welch has a 0.887 composite score, and is ranked as the 40th-best running back and 55th-best player in the state of Georgia for 2024.

After getting those three commitments this weekend, the Colorado Buffaloes now have the 32nd-best class in the nation for 2024, which is the second-highest class ranking CU has secured since 2008, trailing only Coach Prime’s 2023 class.
