On Monday, following Sunday’s Burgundy/White Game, the Colorado Avalanche made their first cuts. In total, six players were reassigned.
Jackson Houck, Brogan O’Brien and Jeffrey Truchon-Viel were all sent packing, meaning there are no remaining players on the roster that are on amateur tryout contracts. O’Brien and Truchon-Viel will return to their respective junior teams in Canada (Prince George and Acadie-Bathurst), while Houck will report to the camp of the San Antonio Rampage, the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate.
Defenseman Josh Anderson was also reassigned to the Prince George Cougars. The Avalanche’s third round selection (71st oveall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, he impressed during the Burgundy/White Game with his physicality, even engaging in fisticuffs with Trucon-Viel.
Left wing Travis Barron will head back to the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s. He was selected by the Avalanche in the seventh round (191st overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
The final player reassigned was forward Gustav Olhaver. A seventh round selection (191st overall) by the Avalanche in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he spent last season in the WHL, but will instead head back to his native Sweden for the upcoming campaign, where he will join the Rogle J20 team.
All of the aforementioned players also participated in the Avalanche’s Rookie Showcase and rookie camp. There are now 51 remaining players on the roster, which you can view here.
