The ‘Coach Prime effect‘ is in full swing, as the Colorado Buffaloes football program just sold out of season tickets for the first time in 27 years, and set a program record for selling out of season tickets in the shortest amount of time.
It’s hard to believe all this has come to fruition just a few short months after the CU Buffs closed a 1-11 campaign in 2022 that will be remembered as one of the very worst ever for Colorado, but it’s all been made possible thanks to the energy and excitement Coach Prime has infused into the program.
The last time the Colorado Buffaloes sold out of season tickets was a seven-year run from 1990-1996. During that span, the Buffs never lost more than three games in any season, they appeared in a major bowl game every year, posted a 5-2 bowl record, and won a national championship.
It was arguably the most successful seven-year chapter in school history, and in that sense, runs in direct contrast to what Coach Prime has just accomplished.
There’s been no winning to motivate this run on tickets. It’s merely been off-season hype and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
“Selling out of season tickets for the first time in 30 years shows how strong our fanbase is,” Athletic Director Rick George said, via an official statement. “Selling out at the earliest point before a season in our history is a testament to our fans’ thirst to see a championship-caliber product on the field. The 100th season of Folsom Field will be a special one with Coach Prime’s first team and a tremendous home schedule on tap. we expect a full house every game and believe we will accomplish that goal shortly after single-game tickets go on sale.”
That feels like a safe assumption, considering the fact that the Colorado Buffaloes just sold out of Spring Game tickets when they couldn’t manage to give them away for free a mere season ago.
