For the latest MMA preview, Colorado MMA News covers an upcoming battle of bantamweight contenders, Justin Gaethje staying sharp for his shot at a red panty night with Conor McGregor and past King of Sparta tournaments for your viewing pleasure.
Cory Sandhagen (12-1) of Elevation Fight Team and Aljamain Sterling (18-3) have agreed to fight each other in the near future. The fight was initially rumored to be going down at UFC San Diego on May 16th, but Sterling recently tweeted that he doesn’t have access to his gym right now, casting doubt on the likelihood of the bout happening in May.
Regardless of when it goes down, the fight is a much-anticipated matchup for both fans and fighters alike. Sandhagen is the No. 4 ranked bantamweight in the world and is unbeaten within the UFC. Sterling is the No. 2 ranked 135 lb fighter in the world, so a win for Sandhagen would likely propel him further up the rankings.
Both Sandhagen and Sterling are attempting to fight their way into the number one contender status and the next shot at the champion. An impressive win here could make a strong argument for either fighter getting the next title shot.
Sandagen’s teammate, Justin Gaethje (21-2) is lobbying for a Conor McGregor fight, and he’s staying sharp in the interim. He was seen this past week getting in work with upcoming prospect Archie Colgan of Genesis Fight Team and professional fighter Le’Ville Simpson over at Onx Headquarters.
