For the fourth consecutive year, Colorado Rapids fans will have to wait to see their team at the friendly confines of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids will again begin their season on the road, this time against San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, March 6 at 1 p.m. MT. But fans are in for a treat when they do open their home slate.
A week later, the club will host Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and the LA Galaxy in their Home Opener at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, March 12 at 5 p.m. MT. The Rapids 34-game schedule will include 24 Western Conference games and 10 matchups against Eastern Conference opponents between March 6 and October 23.
Pablo Mastroeni’s club will have three matchups agains San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Sporting KC, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Rapids will play the remaining Western Conference teams, Houston Dynamo, FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders FC each once at home and once on the road.
Fans should keep an eye out for early-season games that could determine the fate of the Rocky Mountain Cup in 2015; the Rapids will look to retain the trophy with another three-match competition against rivals Real Salt Lake. Colorado will first travel to Rio Tinto Stadium Saturday, April 9 before a home contest Saturday, May 7. The final match in the 2015 Rocky Mountain Cup will be in Utah on Aug. 26.
The club’s annual 4th Fest (Independence Day) features a match against reigning MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, which will mark the 21st consecutive season that the Rapids will host a July 4 match, followed by the largest public display of fireworks in the state of Colorado.
