Colorado allowed a goal within the first 15 minutes of play on Saturday against Toronto FC and was never able to gain any momentum on a soggy afternoon, falling 3-1.
The Rapids were without two forwards due to injury, Dominic Badji and Kevin Doyle, who is tied for the club lead in goals despite having played in just 17 games after being acquired mid-season.
Colorado could not contain Sebastian Giovinco throughout the match, as the Italian was involved on all of Toronto’s goals, scoring the first two and assisting on the third. Giovinco inflicted all of his damage within the first 38 minutes and Toronto was content to slog out a very wet second half.
Dillon Powers notched Colorado’s only goal of the game at minute 40, but by that time, Colorado was in too deep a hole and the conditions were deteriorating too quickly.
In a scary moment in the second half, Toronto forward Luke Moor was handed a yellow card after a high kick that landed in the face/neck region of Rapids defender Sean St. Ledger.

The loss puts Colorado’s already slim playoff hopes nearly out of reach. With just five matches remaining, the Rapids are a full seven points behind sixth-place Portland and must leap-frog three other clubs for the final playoff spot.
