In the second round of the MLS SuperDraft, the Colorado Rapids once again used a draft pick they had previously traded for to acquire a player. This time, they used their 37th pick, which had come from Dallas, to select Dennis Castillo. Castillo is a defenseman from VCU.
Castillo was a team captain all four years at VCU, and his leadership on the field was unparalleled, as he led VCU’s defense to six shutouts his freshman year. Castillo played in 80 games throughout his four years and started in every single one of them. He had 36 career points, 17 goals and 2 assists. As a senior, Castillo was awarded the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year award.
