The Rockies signed their top draft pick, Riley Pint, on Wednesday, giving him a $4.8 million signing bonus. They also agreed with Robert Tyler for $1.7 million (Lottery Round A), left-handed pitcher Ben Bowden (second round, $1.6 million), shortstop Garret Hampson (third round $750,000), third baseman Colton Welker (fourth round $850,000) and catcher Brian Serven (fifth round $400,000).
Some players with Colorado ties signed with the Rockies, too. Taylor Snyder a shortstop who played at Colorado State University-Pueblo was drafted in the 13th round. Also, Colorado native and right-handed pitcher JD Hammer out of Fort Collins signed as a 24th-rounder out of Marshall.
All of these players will report to Grand Junction to play for the Grand Junction Rockies, which is the franchise’s rookie-ball team who plays in the Pioneer League. The team had an exhibition game against the Boulder Collegians (college summer team) on Tuesday, in which the Rockies won 4-0.
