McKenna Hofschild is a once-in-a-generation talent for Colorado State women’s basketball.
Hofschild passed Becky Hammon for second-most career assists in CSU women’s hoops history last year, with 552. And she’ll likely pass Ellen Nystrom (590) this season.
And that was only the tip of the statistical iceberg, as Nystrom was named 2022-23 Mountain West Player of the Year. This time around, she’s been named Preseason MW Player of the Year.
Hofschild, Carman both honored by Mountain West
Hofschild was named Preseason Player of the Year as well as to the All-Mountain West Preseason First-Team:

Last year, Hofschild was also named an Associated Press All-American after finishing with 20.6 points and 7.2 assists per game. That assists mark was good for fifth-most per contest in the country.
Without a doubt, she was a huge reason why Ryun Williams’ women’s basketball team went 20-12 on the year and landed in the WNIT.
This year, she’ll get help from Jackie Carman, a transfer from Wofford who was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year by the Mountain West Conference.

Carman, a 5’8″ guard, averaged 15.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last year. She also made 39.4 percent of her attempts from the floor and a sizzling 33.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Rams picked to finish second in Mountain West
Last year, the Colorado State women’s team finished fourth in the conference behind UNLV, Wyoming and San Diego State. The Rams went 20-12 overall, 12-6 in MW play.
This year, those same Rebels from UNLV have been picked to win the conference, while CSU was chosen to finish as the Mountain West’s runners-up.
