For much of the offseason, the focus for the University of Colorado football team has been on the health of Deion Sanders.

The issue turned out to be a serious one for face of the Buffs as a routine scan raised alarms for his primary care physician. A follow up revealed that Coach Prime had a tumor on his bladder which had turned into an aggressive form of cancer.

Options were presented to Sanders who ultimately underwent a procedure to remove his bladder. Dr. Janet Kukreja, director of urologic oncology at UC-Health, proclaimed that the procedure was successful and Sanders has been cured of the cancer.

The announcement was made during a press conference in Boulder on Monday. Sanders said he walked the team through the ordeal, but just seeing the players brought renewed joy for Coach Prime.

Prime says he “able, strong and ready” for the season to begin. He’s down about 12 pounds from his usual weight, but spoke with joy and enthusiasm that he often eludes when speaking about his football team.
