Danilo Gallinari is expected to miss significant time after spraining his right ankle in the Denver Nuggets’ overtime loss Friday night.

X-rays came back negative, but Gallinari will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Following his departure late in the third quarter, it was reported by Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post that Gallinari left the arena in a walking boot.

Gallo went up for a block and landed awkwardly on his ankle with under two minutes to play in the third. He immediately went to the ground, holding his ankle in a great amount of pain.

Here is the play:

“It’s worse than the one I had just two months ago,” Gallinari told Dempsey, referring to the six games he sat out in December due to a left ankle sprain. “It’s worse than that one.”

With no timetable on the return of Gallo, the Nuggets will rely on Will Barton, Gary Harris, JaKarr Sampson, Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur to compensate for Gallinari’s scoring ability.

Gallo was in the midst of a career year, averaging 19.5 points per game.
