A former star of the Indoor Football League with the Colorado Ice, Danny Mason is getting another crack at making the Denver Broncos roster. Following the loss of former first-round pick Shane Ray to a torn wrist ligament, the team added Mason to the training camp roster and waived tight end Henry Krieger-Coble in a corresponding move. The team announced the news Saturday morning.
This is Mason’s second training camp with the Broncos. The Louisville, Ky. native was on the training camp roster in 2015 on a futures contract signed after spending time with the Loveland-based Colorado Ice. He was released on Sept. 1, then re-signed to the practice squad five days later. His first tenure in Denver officially ended later that month when he was given his outright release.
The Chicago Bears added Mason to their practice squad in November of 2015. He was off and on the Chicago roster twice throughout 2016.
In his final season as a college player at Texas A&M-Commerce, Mason started all 10 games for the Lions, ranking third on the team with 55 tackles while compiling 23 unassisted tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and four pass breakups.
