The Colorado Rockies promoted their No. 2 overall prospect David Dahl prior to Monday’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.
Dahl hit .484 with five homeruns and 16 RBIs in 16 games with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.
The news was somewhat unexpected, and got the baseball world thinking that it might mean the Rox would try to unload one of their outfielders; however, general manager Jeff Bridich said the promotion was completely unrelated.
“Absolutely not.” Bridich told Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. “No connection to the deadline whatsoever.”
Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon are the two outfielders that have showed up most in trade rumors surrounding the team.
Dahl is hitting sixth and playing left field in his Major League debut.
