Demaryius Thomas’ grandmother has been serving a life sentence since July 20, 2000 for what the Justice Department officially called “conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and cocaine base; distribution of cocaine.”
Today, her sentence was one of 214 commuted by President Obama.

President Obama previously commuted the sentence of Thomas’ mother, Katina Smith on similar charges.
Mrs. Thomas will be released December 1 of this year.
Thomas’ mother, Katina Stuckey Smith, was released from a halfway house in Atlanta last year. Smith had served more than 15 years for her involvement in the cocaine ring before having her sentence commuted by Obama in mid-July.
