Maintaining a job in the NFL is one of the hardest things to do in professional sports. Despite massive 53-man rosters (in comparison to other leagues), injuries, massive rookie influx and non-guaranteed contracts make turnover inevitable.
Kenny Anunike learned that today.
Undrafted out of Duke, Anunike showed promise for the Denver Broncos in his first two seasons, but injuries forced him off the field, as he spent all of 2014 on injured reserve and was only active for three games in 2015.
Today, he’s been released by the Denver Broncos, his roster spot going to safety Ryan Murphy.
Now, if Murphy’s name sounds familiar to you, there’s a reason why.
For one, Murphy spent last season on the Broncos practice squad, but more importantly, he’s the player that was sent home from the Super Bowl after he and his brother were detained by the police after being questioned as a part of a prostitution sting in San Jose, California.
He’ll have an uphill battle making the final roster this year, too.
