Each summer, professor Mike Lewis of Emory University uses a self-made formula to rank all 32 NFL fanbases. This summer, the Denver Broncos came in at No. 3.
Previously, Lewis used a formula that develops a “statistical model of fan interest.” Those models were used to determine which cities’ fans were more willing to spend more after considering things like market size and performance.
This year’s formula, the Dynamic Fan Equity, is calculated using the current fan equity and trend in said equity stemmed from the organization’s social media performance. For more on the formula, including what goes into determining the rankings, click here.
The Broncos were beaten by Dallas at two and the Patriots at the top spot, with San Francisco and Philadelphia rounding out the top five.
