Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz is special.

On Sunday against the Chiefs, he went a perfect 6-6 to kick the Broncos to victory over their hated division rivals.

Lutz has been on one all year long, and he’s been crucial to Denver’s success as they lead the AFC at 9-2.

For the second time in three weeks, Lutz was honored, this time by winning Special Teams Player of the Week.

On Sunday, the Broncos defeated the Chiefs 22-19 to take a stranglehold on the AFC West. And Lutz scored 16 of the team’s 22 points.

He started out by giving Denver an early 3-0 lead on a 29-yard field goal to cap the Broncos first drive. He then pushed the home team’s lead to 6-0 with a 24-yarder right down the middle.

Of course, the Broncos would have rather converted those two drives into touchdowns. But thanks to his kicking, the team started a lot faster than they had most of the season. Before the Chiefs game, Denver scored on only two opening drives, one a touchdown and one a field goal.

It was clear he’d be needed all game long as the Chiefs tied it up 6-6 at halftime with a touchdown and PAT block by Frank Crum.

He was called on to make the point after attempt when Jaleel McLaughlin scored in the third quarter. Then, Lutz hit three field goals in the fourth to tie the game up and eventually win it over the Chiefs. They were 38, 54, and 35 yards, respectively.

Keep in mind, none of the field goals were guaranteed. Not only did the Chiefs block his kick last November to beat the Broncos, but Denver gave up a field goal block to the Texans three weeks ago, too.

Lutz is clutch. The veteran kicker now has 8 game-winning field goals since 2023, when he joined the Broncos. That leads the NFL.

And he adds this Special Teams Player of the Week award to his Player of the Month award in October.

A perfect October. Repost🔄 to congratulate Wil Lutz on being named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month! 👏

Currently, the 9-2 Broncos are on their bye week. In Week 13, they’ll face the Washington Commanders (3-8) on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 23.

There’s no doubt the Broncos are true contenders now, and it’s clear Sean Payton and Vance Joseph out-coached Andy Reid and Steve Spagnuolo.
