It’s official, the Denver Broncos first move during free agency was to upgrade the area that needed it most: the offensive line. On Thursday afternoon, they team announced the signing of guard Ronald Leary.
The deal is reportedly for four-years, and worth $35 million with $20 million in guarantees. The 27-year-old Leary will likely play right guard for the Broncos.
“Ronald is a big, physical and athletic guard who plays with an attitude,” said Broncos general manager John Elway. “Upgrading the offensive line was a priority for us this offseason, and we’re excited to add Ronald to our team.”
Leary joins the Broncos from the Dallas Cowboys. In 2016, he played in 13 games (12 starts), doing so without allowing a single sack. He also deserves some credit for the emergence of running back Ezekiel Elliott, who led the NFL in rushing as a rookie with 1,631 yards.
“Having the chance to sign a talented and physical guard like Ronald was very important to us,” said Broncos head coach Vance Joseph. “He played on one of the best offensive lines in football in Dallas and adds toughness to our line.”
