Denver Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds was shot twice last week according to 9News and the Denver Police Department.
The two bullets hit his arm and his head, but the NFL wideout sustained only minor injuries and has been recovering at the Broncos facility this week.
It was a new incident involving a Broncos player being shot and another with an altercation following a visit to Shotgun Willie’s.
Denver Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds shot twice, is OK
When Broncos fans hear of a player being shot, it undoubtedly brings back flashbacks of the tragic death of Darrent Williams back in 2007.
Luckily, current Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds was shot twice, but he wasn’t seriously injured.
According to reporting by 9News, the shooting occurred a week ago, on October 18 on I-25. Just after 3 a.m. MDT, the driver of a blue Ford Bronco called 911 to report a shooting near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street. Minutes later, two more 911 calls came in, with one person saying they’d been shot and needed an ambulance, and the third said they were shot at.
After the three were found by Denver Police–with the group including receiver Josh Reynolds–the Ford Bronco was located on I-25 near Bellevue. There are multiple bullet holes in the front windshield and spent casings were found on the interstate, too.
Reynolds, who is on the injured reserve for a hurt thumb, was shot in the arm and the back of the head, while another man was shot in the back, and the third was cut by broken glass.
The Denver Broncos released a statement to 9NEWS saying, “Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”
While the team was in New Orleans beating the pants off the Saints on Oct. 17, Reynolds was in Denver. He apparently went out to Shotgun Willie’s, an infamous gentleman’s club, at some point that night.
Back in 2011, former Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater was arrested on DUI after visiting the strip club himself. Prater reportedly slammed a rental SUV into a car in a Hyatt hotel parking lot, then fled the scene. The 22-year old strip club employee he was with went into the hotel after the accident and said “Matt P” ditched her.
Prater was found at a La Quinta and blew a .142 blood alcohol level, nearly twice the legal limit.
Two men arrested after shooting
According to 9News and the DPD, two men were arrested following Denver Broncos receiver Josh Reynolds being shot.
Their names are Burr Charlesworth and Luiz Mendoza. According to reports, there were as many as four vehicles following Reynolds and friends, who left Shotgun Willie’s at 2:45 a.m. More suspects are being searched for, as well.
As for Reynolds, the injuries he sustained from the gunshots are not likely to keep him on the Injured Reserve longer than he was already scheduled to be. He’s eligible to come back in Week 11, which would be Nov. 10 against the Chiefs.
That is, if he isn’t dealing with psychological trauma after being chased and shot twice.
It’s somewhat reminiscent of Ricky Pearsall, the San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver who was shot earlier this year. Pearsall was shot during an attempted armed robbery by a 17-year-old, and luckily had a bullet travel through his chest and miss vital organs. That sidelined him for 50 days.
Next up for the Broncos (4-3) is a should-be must-win game against the awful Carolina Panthers (1-6) this Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:25 p.m. MDT.
