Three weeks of the NFL season are in the books, and if you haven’t been taking the Denver Broncos seriously, you really should start to. The Broncos are 3-0 and continue to find new ways to win football games.
Denver has proved it can survive tight games, win on defense and now win with offense. Trevor Siemian didn’t make every throw that he should have, but Denver fans have to be pleased with four touchdown passes in his first NFL road start against a good Cincinnati Bengals defense.
The Broncos seem to be hitting their stride and the NFL should be terrified.
Denver continues to find ways to get wins late in games. And the more the Broncos do this, the more confident they become in these situations. It doesn’t seem to matter if the game is home or away; the team expects to win by any means necessary.
What Denver has done so far is comparable to only the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings. Both of these teams were expected to do a lot this season and have each faced questions similar to the Broncos at the quarterback position. The New England system and the fact their opponents haven’t seemed to show up with a decent game plan has fueled the Patriots. An amazing defense has helped the Vikings overcome their critics. In Denver, Siemian is proving that he has the poise and attitude to lead the Broncos deep into the postseason again.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens are the other undefeated teams left in the NFL, but we need to see a bit more from them before I actually believe that they’re at the level of Denver, Minnesota or New England.
The Broncos have quietly gone about their business defending their title by beating the defending NFC champions, a hungry Indianapolis Colts team and a good Bengals team that wanted to open up their home schedule in style. And the crazy part about things so far is that Denver probably hasn’t even played close to their best game.
Denver may not be getting the credit yet as the team to beat in the NFL, but that’s the way they like it. However, it is time for experts around the league to admit that this team was not a fluke last year and has come back even stronger in their title defense this season.
